Myrmidia
History

Myrmidia started out written in DarkBASIC; a DirectX based language aimed at casual/amatuer games programmers. Many foolish people seem to make their first project a large 3D multiplayer game, most have the sense to give up within a week or two, I just happened to be more stubborn than most.

I worked sporadically on it for a year or two and met some very nice people, before finally conceding defeat. The code wasn't very well written and its reliance on DirectX was a large problem for me, since by that point I'd switch almost entirely to using GNU/Linux.

Earlier this year (2005) I started developing a small 3D python module called SabreGL; come the summer it had progressed to a stage where I thought it might be possible to start building a game using it.

Naturally, I thought of Myrmidia and all the odd people who'd crazily hung around hoping for a new release. Me starting from scratch probably wasn't what they were hoping for, but it was neccessary to acheive something that I could be proud of and that supported multiple platforms.
